KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia—The Malaysia Open 2026, the first BWF World Tour event of the season and a Super 1000 tournament, got underway in Kuala Lumpur, with finals held on January 11. Team Yonex enjoyed a perfect start to the new year, capturing titles in all five disciplines.
In women’s singles, world No.1 An Se Young (KOR) claimed her first title of the season with a straight-games victory over world No.2 Wang Zhi Yi (CHN). Fresh off a record-breaking 2025 season, An said she is focused on taking each tournament one step at a time this year.
Men’s singles saw Kunlavut Vitidsarn (THA) secure his first Super 1000 title. The former world champion and ex-world No.1 delivered a confident performance, saying after the final that this was a title he had long been aiming for.
All three doubles events were also won by world No.1 pairs. In men’s doubles, Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae (KOR) edged past home favorites Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in a thrilling final-game finish. Tang Ning and Liu Sheng Shu (CHN) took the women’s doubles crown, while Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping (CHN) continued their strong form by winning the mixed doubles title.
